Sibling Doula

You have your birth doula on-call and ready to support you and your partner during your pregnancy. You have your postpartum doula and postpartum plan ready to help you transition into parenthood. But, naturally, you have 1,000 more questions running through your head such as: who will watch my older kid(s) while I am in labor? Who can be on-call for my birth to watch my older kids? When I go into labor, who can watch my children? Many of our clients do not have family in the area to watch their older children. While friends are amazing, it can be hard to have a friend who is always on call to care for your children when they, themselves, have their own families and own careers. YOUR SIBLING DOULA WILL!

What is a Sibling Doula?

To keep it short: we do whatever you, your family, and your child(ren) need!

Sibling Doula services include:

  • The sibling doula provides 24/7 on-call availability to care for your older child(ren) during your labor and birth.

  • The sibling doula will come to your home or wherever your older child may be, and provide full care for the child during your labor, including preparing meals, providing educational activities, and maintaining a safe and fun environment for your child. Since the sibling doula will be with your child during your labor and birth, she is trained to be able to answer with great care and thoughtfulness any questions that may arise about the birth while you are gone.

  • The sibling doula may also perform basic household tasks whenever possible, including loading the dishwasher, preparation of meals and general tidying up of your home.

  • The sibling doula is able to bring your child to the hospital or place of birth to meet the new baby if this is something you request.

  • The ability to support your partner and you at the hospital, should your partner need to check in and share time with the other children.

  • The sibling doula will stay with your child in the immediate postpartum period until arrangements have been made with family or others to further care for your child.

  • Help with adjusting siblings to the new baby after you arrive home.

Before labor/delivery:

Two in-home "play-date" visits - We will schedule two in-home visits to get to know you and your child(ren) before the birth.

  • The first visit will be to become familiar with your plans for birth and postpartum, and to gather information relevant to the care of your child(ren).

  • The second visit will be a two-hour “date night” for you and your partner so that your child may become more comfortable with the sibling doula in order to minimize any anxiety on the day of your birth. During the two hours your sibling doula will play with and care for your child and get to know them better.

On-Call Sibling Doula Support:

  • When to call the sibling doula – it is the client’s responsibility to notify the doula when there are changes that could indicate impending labor. The sibling doula will potentially need 1-2 hours to get to the client once called depending on location and traffic conditions.

  • The full fee for the sibling doula service is inclusive of up to 12 hours of care. In the event that the client would need the doula for additional hours, an hourly fee would apply and be invoiced after the birth. This additional payment would be due within 2 weeks of the client’s birth if applicable. The contracted 12 hours of sibling doula support does not include hours needed for the prenatal visit, or any phone/text support.

  • Following delivery, the sibling doula is able to bring the child(ren) to the hospital to meet their new sibling, and take family photos if desired (I am not a professional photographer).
